Who we are:

The Samaritan Center is an interfaith effort of community members who are committed to serving the hungry and those in need in Central New York in order to promote their welfare, dignity and self-sufficiency. Founded in 1981, the Samaritan Center is a non-profit 501c3 providing daily hot meals without questions to hungry men, women and children while promoting an environment of mutual-respect and opportunity. Coupled with the provision of nutritious food is a system of case management whereby individuals are offered assistance in accessing the supports necessary to improve their life situation. The Center is governed by an active Board of Directors with a current staff of nine. Staff members work with each other professionally and collaboratively. Each individual is expected to demonstrate initiative, and commitment to the organization, exercise good judgment and be held accountable for their assigned responsibilities. Samaritan Center is an organization where teamwork, the contributions of volunteers and community partnerships are the key to its success.

Program Director/Case Manager

Position Description:

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of programs and services in support of the organization’s mission and goals, including but not limited to: Case Management, Outreach and Internship Programs. The Program Director will have both administrative and program operations responsibilities as well as be a visible and active member of the leadership team.

Responsibilities:

o Apply critical analysis to programs to ensure each is addressing a well-defined and valid need, is results oriented, utilizes best practices, operates efficiently and is quality focused. Identify, plan and implement strategies that lead to improved/high quality outcomes.

o Take the lead on identifying emerging needs of current or potential guests, utilizing best practice models to enhance current programs or work with Executive Director to develop new programming addressing specific needs.

o Supervise and manage the work of program staff, interns and volunteers.

o Oversee the continued development and use of the case management database including but not limited to quality control, consistency, confidentiality, data analysis and report development.

o Act as consultant to agency staff in understanding and managing guest behavior with a focus on skill development.

o Assign and supervise guest casework, balancing workloads and complexity. Position will directly assist with casework as needed.

o Possess knowledge of funding sources, complete related program reports and participate in grant requests as necessary.

o Responsible for ensuring the appropriate systems, staffing and procedures are in place to support programming goals. Operate within fiscal constraints, monitoring expenditures, managing resources and identifying efficiencies.

o Support the general operations of the organization. As a small team, we all chip in when needed, meaning everything from administrative tasks to assisting with meal service to picking up donations.

o Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Knowledge and Skills:

o MSW required.

o Minimum 7-10 years progressive professional experience in program management, development and supervision.

o Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to deadline and budget, shifting priorities with changing goals.

o Able to quickly adjust to new demands, people and environments, cope well with challenging situations and demonstrate composure under stress.

o Leadership: inclusive, humble, adaptable, self-directed and mission focused, inspiring others to action, demonstrates competence, seeks feedback and shows genuine concern for the well-being of the group.

o Excellent relationship building skills with proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and organizations.

o Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.

o Dynamic, detail-oriented, creative, adaptable team player with willingness to jump in where needed, including engaging with guests and serving meals as needed.

o Computer proficiency and experience with databases required.

o Strong problem solving skills and ability to think creatively and conceptually.

o Highly motivated and committed to Samaritan’s mission.

o Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.

o Ability to travel to various event and meeting locations as needed for the job.

o Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
